It is a great joy and pride for us that we have officially inaugurated Hungary’s first sodium-sulfur (NaS) technology-based energy storage system in Litér – with 750 kW power output and 4,350 kWh capacity. This investment is not merely a technical development, but a decisive step toward a more sustainable, flexible, and secure energy system.

For this project, we chose the cutting-edge NaS technology from Japanese company NGK Insulators Ltd., which is a global leader and already operates with nearly 5 GWh of installed capacity worldwide. With its long discharge capability of 6–8 hours, our system is capable of managing peak loads on the Hungarian electricity grid.
One of the greatest advantages of NaS batteries is their outstanding energy density, which allows significantly more energy to be stored in the same area compared to other technologies. Additionally, their rapid charging and discharging capabilities enable immediate response to grid demands, thereby supporting the integration of renewable energy sources and grid stability.
The sodium and sulfur that form the basis of this technology are abundantly available and cost-effective raw materials, thus we offer a sustainable and competitive solution in the long term as well.
It was no coincidence that we chose Litér: MVM Balance had previously operated a power plant here, and the necessary grid connection capability was already in place. The Tesseract Project can thus contribute not only to local but also to national electricity system stability.
This development could not have been realized without the dedicated cooperation of our partners – NGK Insulators Ltd., MVM Balance, as well as local and national experts, decision-makers, and our colleagues.
This day represents not only the completion of a project for us, but also the beginning of a new era in domestic energy storage.
We trust that the Litér NaS energy storage facility will serve as an inspiration for other developments and contribute to Hungary joining the forefront of innovative and sustainable energy systems.
